Venue: Bungoma Polytechnic Grounds
Competition: FKF Women Premier League – Matchweek 4
Kayole Starlets battled to a hard-fought goalless draw against Bungoma Queens in a tightly contested encounter played under heavy rain in Bungoma. Both teams entered the match in fine form after winning their previous fixtures, and neither was willing to concede ground in a clash that showcased disciplined defending and goalkeeping brilliance.
FIRST HALF
The hosts started on the front foot, nearly capitalizing on a defensive lapse in the 9th minute, but goalkeeper Pauline Kathuruh reacted quickly—rushing off her line to smother the danger.
Our first chance came in the 21st minute when Bobby’s precise corner delivery found Lindah Kihara, whose header was gathered comfortably by the Bungoma keeper. Moments later, Kihara turned provider, releasing Bobby down the flank, but her shot sailed narrowly over the bar.
The half was played in heavy rain, making ball control and passing difficult for both sides. Despite the conditions, the Starlets remained composed, keeping possession and limiting Bungoma’s attacking rhythm as the teams went into halftime level at 0–0.
SECOND HALF
After the restart, the Starlets looked sharper and more purposeful in attack. Ashley Shilwatso, Faith Naliaka, Lavyne Achola, and Esther Ngugi all came close to finding the breakthrough, but their efforts either missed the target or were comfortably handled by the Bungoma keeper.
At the back, our defense stayed disciplined and organized, with Foscah Kanenge, Hellen Ochieng, Lavyne Achola, and Salome Drailer forming a solid wall in front of the ever-reliable Kathuruh.
KATHURUH’S HEROICS
Goalkeeper Pauline Kathuruh was the standout performer of the day. Commanding in her area, she dealt expertly with aerial threats and produced several key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Her finest moment came in stoppage time when Catherine Khaemba of Bungoma Queens unleashed a long-range effort that seemed destined for the net. Kathuruh reacted brilliantly, tipping the ball onto the crossbar before collecting the rebound—drawing applause from fans and players alike.
WHAT’S NEXT
The team now returns to Nairobi to face Kibera Soccer Women at Kasarani Annex on Sunday at 1 PM (venue and time subject to change).
Kibera are still chasing their first win of the season, setting up what promises to be an exciting clash. We call on our fans to come out in large numbers and rally behind the team.
