Kayole Starlets secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Trinity Starlets in a tightly contested encounter at Police Sacco Stadium, boosting their fight to move away from the relegation zone. Trinity, on the other hand, came into the match determined to solidify their third-place position on the log.

FAST-PACED FIRST HALF

Trinity Starlets started on the front foot and took an early lead just minutes into the match. A bouncing ball inside the box wrong-footed Goalkeeper, Pauline Kathuruh, falling kindly to Trinity’s striker, Hanifa Bajari, who capitalized with a simple finish into an empty net.

Kayole responded positively, with Faith Naliaka making an impressive run down the left flank in the 8th minute before delivering a low cross to Esther Ngugi, whose close-range effort was well saved by the Trinity goalkeeper. Ngugi remained a constant threat and nearly equalized moments later with a long-range attempt that narrowly missed the target after spotting the keeper off her line.

Sustained pressure eventually paid off for Kayole. A loose ball from a goalkeeper clearance fell to Mercy Mang’uro, who showed great composure to loop the ball over the advancing keeper and restore parity.

COMEBACK COMPLETE

Kayole carried their momentum into the second half, dominating possession and creating more chances. Their persistence was rewarded in the 69th minute when Lavyne Achola’s cross took a deflection and found Esther Ngugi, whose header was directed across goal to an unmarked Magneta Ocharo. She calmly slotted home to give Kayole a deserved lead.

Faith Naliaka nearly extended the advantage shortly after, breaking through the defense after beating the offside trap, but her effort was cleared just as she attempted to round the goalkeeper. Kayole also had strong claims for a penalty when Esther Ngugi was brought down in the box, but the referee waved play on.

The defense held firm in the closing stages, ensuring Kayole secured all three points. The victory provides a significant boost in Kayole’s bid to avoid relegation. The team now sits on 19 points, five points ahead of Madira Girls, whom they will face next. Maximum points in the remaining two fixtures will be crucial to securing their place in next season’s competition.
