The new season in Turkey has kicked off on a positive note for our former players Lavin Achola and Euphraiser Shilwatso, with both players featuring for Haymana Spor Kulübü Women in their opening two matches of the season.
Achola made an immediate impact on her debut, scoring a beautiful free-kick in the 42nd minute to help Haymana secure a 2-2 draw against 1207 Antalyaspor in their opening match of the season. Shilwatso was introduced in the second half and played her part as Haymana fought to secure a point in their opening fixture.
The duo were back in action in the second match of the season against Çekmeköy Bilgidoğa Spor in Istanbul, with both earning starts. Shilwatso was handed her first start in defence, while Achola started at left-back. Achola once again put in an impressive display, providing two assists as Haymana produced a dominant performance to secure an emphatic 8-0 victory. It was, however, an unfortunate outing for Shilwatso, who was solid throughout her time on the pitch before suffering an ankle injury in the 40th minute. The injury forced her to be stretchered off, and everyone at Kayole Starlets wishes Ashley a quick and full recovery.
With one win and one draw from their opening two matches, Haymana currently sit third on the table and will face a major test this Sunday when they host second-placed Beşiktaş in their third match of the Turkish Women’s Football Super League. Meanwhile, attention will also turn to Faith Naliaka and Lindah Kihara, who are set to begin their campaign with Soma Zafer Spor in the Kadınlar 1. Ligi, B Grubu. The duo are expected to kick off their season on 20 September, giving Kayole Starlets fans another reason to keep an eye on events in Turkey.
