Match Review: Barcelona SC 0-1 Kayole Starlets – Nyahururu Stadium
The match between Barcelona SC and Kayole Starlets was a tightly contested affair where both teams had opportunities to score but were ultimately denied by the brilliance of the goalkeepers.
In front of the home crowd, Barcelona SC looked to assert dominance early on, but their efforts were met with resolute defending and sharp reflexes from Pauline Kathuruh. On the other hand, we also created some promising moments ourselves. A well-struck shot from Nuru Hadima in the 2nd minute was saved. Shalin Otieno had a golden opportunity minutes later in a 1v1 situation, only to be saved by Barcelona’s goalie. Not to be outdone, Kathuruh was equally alert, denying a 1v1 chance on the other end to keep the game level just before the Halftime whistle.
Melissa Vivian, Chris Kach and Esther Wanjiru were brought in for Phoebe Otieno, Pauline Nakhanu and Shalin Otieno respectively at the start of second half. Both teams continued to push for a goal but the deadlock was finally broken in the 83rd minute when Melissa Vivian beat the offside trap and delivered a decisive goal from Nuru Hadima’s assist, much to the dismay of the home crowd. Melissa’s clinical finish sealed the victory for us in a game where fine margins and goalkeeper heroics took center stage. The win takes us 5 points clear at the top of table as at Matchweek 11 with 26 points.
