Match Report: Kayole Starlets Advance to FKF Women’s Cup Round of 16
Kayole Starlets secured a place in the Round of 16 of the FKF Women’s Cup with a composed 2-0 victory over Makolanders in the Round of 32.
The game began at a slow tempo, with both sides cautiously feeling each other out. We created the first real chance when Mercy Mang’uro fired a well-placed free kick that was confidently saved by the Makolanders goalkeeper. The opponents responded quickly, but Pauline Nakhanu made a timely block to deny a dangerous attack in the box.
Our breakthrough came in the 25th minute — Nuru Hadima pounced on a defensive mistake and calmly struck from outside the box to give us a deserved 1-0 lead. We looked to double the advantage before halftime, but chances for Molly Owuor and Shalin Otieno went just wide.
The second half began with more attacking intent. Captain Sarah Chalovu made a brilliant solo run down the right flank, rounded the keeper, but couldn’t convert from a tight angle. On the other end, Pauline Kathuruh produced a vital sweeping clearance outside her area to deny an equalizer.
The match was sealed in the final stages. Substitutes Esther Wanjiru and Chris Kach made an immediate impact — Esther delivered a perfect pass to Chris, who scored with her first touch just five minutes after coming on. The pair linked up again moments later, but this time the effort was denied by the keeper and Valerian Nabwire was unlucky with the follow-up.
With a clean sheet and a confident performance, we progress to face Zetech Sparks FC in the next round. The team now shifts focus to our final league match of the season against Barcelona SC on Saturday, May 10th at 1 PM at Calvary Grounds.
