Match Report: Kayole Starlets 4-0 Sunderland Samba
Calvary Grounds was already buzzing well before kick-off, with fans sensing they were about to witness a historic evening. Our girls didn’t disappoint, flying out of the blocks and nearly striking early — both Sarah Chalovu and Shalin Otieno went close within the first 10 minutes.
In the 11th minute, Salome Drailer thought she had opened the scoring after latching onto a cross from Pauline Nakhanu, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside against Shalin.
The breakthrough finally came in the 25th minute. A rapid counter-attack saw Molly Owuor blaze down the left wing and deliver a pinpoint cross into the box. Shalin Otieno met it with a clever flick into the net, sending the home crowd into a frenzy! Sunderland responded quickly, hitting the crossbar minutes later, but Hellen Ochieng made a vital clearance to preserve the lead.
Just before halftime, Nuru Hadima sliced open Sunderland’s defense with a superb through ball. Sarah Chalovu raced onto it and coolly slotted home, giving us a commanding 2-0 advantage at the break.
Second Half: A Show of Class
Coach Busu made early changes, introducing Melissa Vivian and Esther Wanjiru for Nuru and Shalin. Just eight minutes after coming on, Melissa finished off a breathtaking seven-player team move — starting from our goalkeeper and completed without Sunderland touching the ball — a true Goal of the Season contender!
Further changes followed:
-
Valerian Nabwire replaced Sarah Chalovu (78’)
-
Rose Mumbua and Chris Kach came on for Drailer Salome and Molly Owuor (85’)
The substitutes made an instant impact. In the 88th minute, Melissa found Rose, who picked out Valerian. She whipped in a cross that landed perfectly for Chris Kach, who unleashed a stunning long-range screamer into the top corner to make it 4-0.
