Match Report: MTG Utd 1-1 Kayole Starlets
The match between MTG Utd and Kayole Starlets started at a slow pace, with MTG Utd taking the initiative and pressing forward, creating early threats in Kayole’s half. Despite MTG’s dominance, our defense, along with the goalkeeper, remained resolute in keeping them at bay.
However, in the 22nd minute, MTG United broke the deadlock. A foul by Lavyne Achola on MTG’s winger just outside the edge of the box led to a free kick. MTG capitalized on the opportunity, scoring directly from the set piece to take the lead.
We responded with determination, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Esther Wanjiru and Sarah Chalovu both had chances to level the score, but their attempts were well saved by MTG’s goalkeeper.
The situation worsened for us in the 42nd minute when Esther Wanjiru was sent off for an off-the-ball incident, reducing us to ten players. MTG maintained their lead going into halftime, while we faced an uphill task in the second half.
Despite being a player down, we started the second half strongly, creating multiple chances. Sarah’s early attempt on goal was denied by MTG’s goalkeeper. Coach Busu made tactical changes, introducing new signing Valerian Nabwire and Shalin Otieno for Molly Owuor and Drailer Salome respectively.
We continued to push forward, and in the 75th minute, our persistence paid off. Shalen Njeri’s long ball found substitute Valerian, who timed her run perfectly to beat the offside trap and slotted home her first goal of the season, leveling the score at 1-1.
Seeking to maintain momentum, we brought in Melissa Vivian for Sarah to add energy to the attack. We almost found a winner when Shalin Otieno went through on goal, but her shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.
The match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw, bringing our impressive nine-game winning streak to an end. Additionally, our streak of nine consecutive clean sheets was also broken. Despite the draw,we remain six points clear at the top of the table as we prepare to face Gaspo Women in our next fixture.
