Uweza Women FC 0 : 5 Kayole Starlets FC

Matchweek 18 Report: Uweza Women 0-5 Kayole Starlets

The match began on a solemn note with a minute of silence in honor of our top fan, Faith Williams, who sadly passed away last week. Once the whistle blew, we wasted no time asserting our dominance, taking the lead inside the first two minutes. Sarah Chalovu’s initial effort was parried by the goalkeeper, but Shalin Otieno quickly squared the rebound back to her, and she made no mistake, heading it into the net.

Just minutes later, we doubled our lead after a goalkeeping error. Salome Drailer’s low shot slipped through the keeper’s hands, giving us a comfortable 2-0 advantage. The pressure didn’t let up, and in the 14th minute, Lavyne Achola’s powerful free-kick was pushed away by the keeper. Our relentless attacking play paid off again in the 18th minute when Sarah Chalovu capitalized on another rebound, slotting home after Molly Owuor’s shot struck the post.

Uweza Women struggled to gain a foothold in the match, and our dominance was further rewarded in the 31st minute. Nuru Hadima delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, which Salome Drailer controlled expertly before turning and smashing an unstoppable shot past the keeper. With a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime, we were firmly in control.

We carried our momentum into the second half, and in the 55th minute, Lavyne Achola’s long pass from deep in our half found Drailer, who calmly slotted it home to complete her first career hat-trick. Shortly after, the coach made her first substitutions, bringing on Chris Kach and Rose Mumbua for Sarah Chalovu. Notably, this was the first time this season that Mercy Mang’uro was subbed out, having played every single minute until this match.

The substitutions kept our attack lively, with Kach and Rose linking up well, though we couldn’t convert our chances. In the 80th minute, Phoebe Otieno and Valerian Nabwire were introduced, replacing hat-trick hero Salome Drailer and Shalin Otieno. Our goalkeeper, Pauline Kathuruh, was finally called into action in the 81st minute but produced a brilliant save to deny Uweza Women a consolation goal.

This emphatic victory keeps us six points clear at the top of the table ahead of Bandari Queens. With team morale soaring, we now turn our focus to the highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash against Bandari Queens on Saturday, March 15th, at Calvary Grounds.
